ICC World T20 - Preview

Hey, its T20 time again. Its been just a couple of weeks since IPL got over and here we are for another dose of T20 and this time its the ICC World T20 of which India are the defending champions. The cricketers may be fatigued after the two month long IPL but the viewers seem to be hungry for more action. By now thoughts of whether India is gonna retain the trophy or can someone else get a hand on it would be in minds of many cricket followers.

So its England this time and is being played during the peak of the English summer. This is a very good news for the batsmen, with sun shining bright the wicktes would be drier and would be full of runs. The dry pitches would also be a happy hunting grounds for the tweakers, so spinners hold the key in this T20 as they did to an extent in the IPL with the likes of Anil Kumble making merry.

“Who is the favorite to win ?” is always a very tricky question in this format of the game where the advantage switches between deliveries. India is my pick, it could be justified on the current form of all its players which was on display at the recently concluded IPL, but the bowling attack seem to be a bit out of shape with Zak sitting out nursing an injury and Ishant Sharma is not in his best of form. That narrows down to the IPL purple cap holder RP Singh to lead the Indian attack along with Bhajji, Irfan and PK. According to the captains the part timers could play a very important role in the tournament and thus the likes of Raina, Rohit Sharma and Veeru could come in handy for MSD. The out of form Indian opening pair is also a cause of concern but no one really knows when Veeru’s bat start talkin, yelling rather.

That was my take on the chances of Team India at world T20. For me the other favorites would be South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Bangaladesh for me could well be the dark horse of the tournament because they get better as the format of the game gets shorter. So lets hope that MSD’s boys repeat the magic of 2007 and bring the trophy back home once again.
