ICC World T20 - Preview

Hey, its T20 time again. Its been just a couple of weeks since IPL got over and here we are for another dose of T20 and this time its the ICC World T20 of which India are the defending champions. The cricketers may be fatigued after the two month long IPL but the viewers seem to be hungry for more action. By now thoughts of whether India is gonna retain the trophy or can someone else get a hand on it would be in minds of many cricket followers.

So its England this time and is being played during the peak of the English summer. This is a very good news for the batsmen, with sun shining bright the wicktes would be drier and would be full of runs. The dry pitches would also be a happy hunting grounds for the tweakers, so spinners hold the key in this T20 as they did to an extent in the IPL with the likes of Anil Kumble making merry.

“Who is the favorite to win ?” is always a very tricky question in this format of the game where the advantage switches between deliveries. India is my pick, it could be justified on the current form of all its players which was on display at the recently concluded IPL, but the bowling attack seem to be a bit out of shape with Zak sitting out nursing an injury and Ishant Sharma is not in his best of form. That narrows down to the IPL purple cap holder RP Singh to lead the Indian attack along with Bhajji, Irfan and PK. According to the captains the part timers could play a very important role in the tournament and thus the likes of Raina, Rohit Sharma and Veeru could come in handy for MSD. The out of form Indian opening pair is also a cause of concern but no one really knows when Veeru’s bat start talkin, yelling rather.

That was my take on the chances of Team India at world T20. For me the other favorites would be South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Bangaladesh for me could well be the dark horse of the tournament because they get better as the format of the game gets shorter. So lets hope that MSD’s boys repeat the magic of 2007 and bring the trophy back home once again.

Being Veggie

A human can be healthy without killing animals for food. Therefore if he eats meat he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite.
~ Leo Tolstoy

Now that's truth bang on folks. I know that many wouldn't be happy at me after reading this post but let me make it clear this is not a piece of advice, its only an essay on how being a veggie makes one lead a more healthy and Eco-friendly life.
Let me confess I too was a non-veggie relishing those pieces of meat and chicken few years back until one fine morning I decided 'that's all folks' and became a lacto-vegetarian. Now don't ask me why because it just happened. It was quite a daunting task to have a check on those nasty fluids in my brain that controls my sense of taste and smell and resist my temptations on the dining table, where all others were relishing their non-veg platter. Man, it did require a lot of will power and oh boy how proud I must have been to over come the battle being fought inside my mind.
Post my turning into a lacto-veggie life has been very healthy and comfortable as never before and never really felt that i am loosing on something by not munching on those chunks of meat. It also played an very important role in me transforming from fat and round to more lean and athletic. I think am really turning this blog into my personal account of being a veggie and that's not my intention. Lemme get into some facts that would really make you think 'why not I cut on my meat intake'.
A well balanced vegetarian diet with high fiber and low fat has got a high range of heath benefits some of then include reducing the chances of certain kind of cancers like the colon cancer, heart diseases, type-2 diabetes and of course obesity.
All we non-veggies know that most part of the meat one eat mostly constitutes the fat of the animal and this very fat that we eat does not assimilate with the blood and clogs the blood carrying vessels which leads to blocks and ultimately ends as cardiac arrest which we all know is fatal. This is the most common kind of health complication that a non-veg diet could lead to. What comes next is obesity, the same fat which clogs one's arteries also get settled around in different parts of body because it very difficult to burn fat for a normal person for whom working out is not a part of his routine. This results in expanding waistlines and increasing risk of high blood sugar levels and type2 diabetes. Now that I have given an account of health complications that could arise because of people being non-veg I assume that some related thoughts are making rounds in your mind. There are many health issues that arise due to non-veg diet which I suggest you guys explore all by your self.
Some hard-core non-veggies after reading all this would like to come hard on me advocating the benefits of being a non-veg. I admit that eating meat has its own advantages, like it heats up ones body and is very essential if you are living in cold parts of the planet and some would argue that meat is the ultimate source of proteins for humans. Lemme make a quick comment on this one could very much get the required amount of proteins form plant food as well, for example all the leguminous plants and beans are good sources of protein . Eat them sprouted, trust me they are powerhouses of proteins. One other example is the soy bean, this could be eaten sprouted or as soy milk or even tofu, so this counters the fact that meat is not the only source of proteins it just the matter of finding alternatives, eat more beans and nuts which would very well make the veggie diet protein rich.
I think the last cluster of words would have made you think a little bit more on 'why not I cut on my meat intake'. Before winding up let me also throw some light on how being a veggie would help save the environment. In last five decades the world wide meat production has gone up four times thus putting a greater amount of burden on the planets natural resources. This has resulted in more intensive farming which is destructing natural habitats and causing deforestation, inefficient land-use, animal disease, waste, increased water consumption, water pollution, global climate change and more fossil fuel consumption. An adult human eating a typical omnivorous diet needs 0.32 hectares of land to sustain their food consumption. A vegetarian needs just 0.14 hectares and a vegan 0.07 hectares. Thus being a veggie also means you are doing some good to the planet we live in.
So that's all folks, this is solely my viewpoint based on data I found across my readings on vegetarian diet. For a healthier life I think its always better to be a veggie. I started this post with a quote and would like to end it with one as well.

If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian. We feel better about ourselves and better about the animals, knowing we're not contributing to their pain.

It's THE END of the Great Indian Political League

Yes, finally its come to an end, spread over two months covering 28 states, 543 constituencies with few thousand candidates in fray, about 714 million eligible voters and billions of money spent. It would have been a sigh of relief for the election officials and the politicos once the entire process got completed. With the Congress party making a strong comeback with 206 members in the Lok Sabha Dr.Manmohan Singh is all set for a second stint as the prime minister of the country. This astounding victory of the Congress party according to me is largely attributed to very robust and janta friendly governance they delivered in their previous term also the pro incumbency factor played a major role as well. Talking about the major parties and their numbers the BJP with 163, was very much on the expected lines and it was a total disaster for the left, whom I think with sound trashing in their bastions of West Bengal and Kerala, its all but RIP. On to other regional parties the battle of UP was fought closely and both SP and BSP came neck on neck with SP taking a slight edge over its arch rival thus ending Behanji's Delhi dreams. Trinamool Congress was the standout regional force in these elections who had changed the entire future of left parties in the Indian political scenario. Down south in Tamilnadu the sun never set for DMK and AMMA has a mighty big task ahead to get back to power in TN with assembly elections not very far. Now thats enough about parties and their numbers, let me say some thing about us, i meant the voters( don't count me in us). The voter turnout was not quite phenomenal though it did see a marginal increase over the past years with many of the gennxt voters coming and exercising their franchise. I think this change in the attitude of the young and the urban middle class is mainly because of the number of young and educated candidates in fray also the fact that in these tough times of economic slowdown they saw a messiah in Dr.Singh . So with strong numbers and amazing support from collation parties and sans the left the UPA is all set for another fiver and WE THE PEOPLE live in the hope that they would DELIVER.

I AM BACK

Hey folks, i started blogging a couple of years ago but after posting a couple of them got done with it, don't ask me why. But here am back and all set for a longer second stint with blogging.

Fumble Downunder

What a disappointing Sunday!!! lost my days sleep watching the Indian team give up their desire of victory against the oz in Adelaide. Guys put up an impressive bowling performance in the first 25 overs of the Australian innings with some tight bowling by ishant and irfan, but the batters kept me waitin nd waitin until they surrendered to a meek 152.At 75/5 .I really anticipated score under 180 but clarke nd hogg partnered to give Aussies a not though respectable score of 203 in 50 overs, the Indians certainly failed to capitalize on their good start with the leather. 203 always seemed like a gettable total on that strip bu indians as usual succumbed to the aussie pressure and played some irresponsible shots to get themselves out, prominent being Rohit sharma and Dhoni's uncalled for run out, and yuvraj continued with his lackluster form. With only 3 matches to go.Indians must win at least two of them to secure a place in the finals and for the Aussies with this win they seem to have virtually sealed their place in the finals.

Obama pips Clinton

What a comeback oh boy!!! wit wins in all the primaries that went to polls last week Barack Obama has certainly put Hillary clinton on backfoot. And while the world thought the US is gonna get its first woman president, the contest just got heated up for the democrat candidacy.Obama with his awesome oratorial skills is for sure wooing the democrat voters with his mantra of "Change". The disappointing show at last weekends primary did show its signs in the Clinton camp with two of her campaign managers quitting their jobs. With next super tuesday slated on 4th march man the races' is really heating up. On the other side of the campaign John McCain seems to be a clear winner for the Republican candidacy and there seems to be no contest over there. "It took a Clinton to end papa Bushs' reign and it will take a Clinton to end his sons reign over the country". And this comment seems it could take more time to be realised, lets wait till Aug 28 '08. And Obama is certainly my favorite. :)
